Good Agricultural Practices, also known as GAP. They are a standardized set of codes and regulations to rate agricultural practices at the farm level for a range of commodities. Government regulatory requirements for food and agriculture saw a major improvement in national Food Safety and Quality as a result of GAP systematization.
The objectives of GAP include:
1. Ensuring safety and quality of produce in the food chain.
2. Capturing new market advantages by modifying supply chain governance.
3. Improving natural resources use, workers health, and working conditions.
4. Creating new market opportunities for farmers and exporters in developing countries.
Correspondingly, the four pillars of GAP include economic viability, environmental sustainability, social acceptability, and food safety and quality.
